Position Title: Teaching Kitchen Chef
Location: Turner Farm, Cincinnati, Ohio
Reports to: Culinary Director
Works with: Executive Director, Farm Team, External Partners (UC, Children’s Hospital, Teaching Kitchen Collaborative), Media, Administrative Staff, Event Coordinators, Community Stakeholders
Supervises: Culinary Assistants, Externs, Guest Chefs, Event Participants, and all users of the Turner Farm Teaching Kitchen
Availability: Immediate
Salary: Commensurate with experience (range available upon request) Internships
Position Summary
The Teaching Kitchen Chef is a visionary, hands-on culinary educator and chef who will lead day-to-day operations and programming within the Turner Farm Teaching Kitchen. The ideal candidate brings both culinary expertise and nutrition knowledge, and has a passion for education, wellness, and community engagement. This position will collaborate closely with the onsite teams to design and deliver educational culinary programs, oversee kitchen operations, and further Turner Farm’s mission of promoting food as medicine and farm-to-table education.
The Teaching Kitchen Chef will also support private event catering (up to 50 guests), coordinate virtual and in-person classes, and act as a key liaison with partnering institutions. A unique opportunity exists for someone trained in both nutrition and culinary arts (e.g., RD-Chef, MD- Chef) to shape the future of community health education through food.
Core Responsibilities Program Design & Instruction
Collaborate with the Culinary Director to ensure consistent messaging about Turner Farm’s culinary initiatives, programs, and values.
Develop evidence-based recipes and curricula rooted in the latest nutritional science and aligned with public health and wellness goals.
Create programs that emphasize the interconnection between food, health, and nature.
Instruct private events and teaching classes (up to 50 people) using the kitchen and farm as experiential learning spaces.
Operations & Oversight
Oversee the Teaching Kitchen’s daily operations, including kitchen setup, food procurement, inventory, sanitation, and maintenance.
Maintain equipment and facilities in “like new” condition following established maintenance protocols.
Coordinate food and ingredient sourcing, prioritizing Turner Farm-grown produce and local seasonal items.
Collaborate with the Farm Team to align kitchen programming with seasonal planting and harvesting cycles.
Partnerships & Outreach
Work with external partners (UC, Teaching Kitchen Collaborative, Children’s Hospital, etc.) to develop co-branded programs and collaborative educational offerings.
Represent Turner Farm in community events, health fairs, and public outreach initiatives.
Support Turner Farm’s broader mission by integrating teaching kitchen programming into larger conferences and health initiatives (e.g., Culinary Medicine, Lifestyle Medicine, Food Is Medicine).
Team Leadership
Supervise and mentor CIA externs, culinary assistants, guest chefs, and support staff.
Develop standardized class structures and training protocols to ensure consistency and high-quality instruction, even in your absence.
Administration & Financial Stewardship
Assist in the preparation of the kitchen’s annual budget and monitor expenses to stay within financial guidelines.
Maintain accurate records of purchases, class attendance, feedback, and operational needs.
Support basic data collection and reporting for nutrition-focused programs and initiatives (e.g., surveys, participant feedback, class outcomes).
Marketing & Social Media
Collaborate with Turner Farm’s marketing team to develop content for social media, showcasing seasonal farm ingredients, recipes, educational events, and classes.
Utilize digital platforms to increase visibility and accessibility of teaching kitchen offerings.
Preferred Qualifications
AOS or degree in Culinary Arts (required)
Bachelor's degree in Nutrition, Dietetics, Public Health, or related field (preferred)
Registered Dietitian or RD-Chef (highly preferred)
Outstanding public speaking and culinary demonstration skills
Strong understanding of nutrition science and public health messaging
ServSafe or equivalent food safety certification
Ability to connect with and educate children, families, and adult learners
Experience with virtual teaching platforms and video instruction
Strong organizational, interpersonal, and time management skills
Comfortable collaborating with healthcare professionals, researchers, and wellness educators
